First, test in a place that won't show such as a corner under the couch. I used pure acetone from the beauty supply house because fingernail polish remover wasn't strong enough. It left a little residue but it is much better .How can I remove dried finger nail polish from carpet?
The can of 'spot remover' (orange and black at wal-mart) seems to get anything of carpets, especailly cosmetics
nail polish remover will work
